Era of Undying by Emilie Knight Review

This is a book I won in a giveaway from the author, after hearing nothing about the book till it landed on my doorstep, it is one of the few times I have gone into a book completely blind so let’s see what I thought of it.

There hasn’t been a Blood Warrior for decades. Everyone assumed they were extinct and couldn’t return. Turns out they were just in hiding. Pen chose to revert back to her nomadic life after the death of her family. Life was always safer that way, away from people. Now she’s been caught and odd occurrences have been happening in Ichorisis. People are surviving horrible injuries and illnesses that they shouldn’t be. Now that Pen is under custody of one of the several kings she’s been sent to fix the problem. Whether she wants to or not.

From the very beginning I knew I was going to enjoy this book. This is because the main character has a power that I personally never encountered before, and for it to be done this well is just an added bonus. Being able to control your blood is a dark and unusual power which I now want to know more about. The author even tells you what happens if the blood warrior doesn’t clean the blood after they use it which is the sort of details I love getting from books.

The story is pretty good and very fast paced, I found myself flipping through the pages extremely quickly as I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next.

One of the other reasons why I enjoyed this book was because there wasn’t a side romance happening throughout. Yes one character is a female and another is a male but they are just friends and I enjoyed that so much. This might be because i’m bored of seeing two people who are forced together end up falling in love but this was just a nice change of pace.

The ending did let the book down a little bit in my opinion, to me it felt like it just stopped and didn’t leave on a cliffhanger which would encourage you to buy the next book, or leave you with an ending that left you satisfied, nope it just ended. When endings are so important to a book I think more could have been done here.

However for a first book this is pretty damn good and I can’t wait to read more from her and see what else she brings to this world that she has created.
