The Midnight Star by Marie Lu Review

After finishing off the Rose Society two days ago I knew that I needed to get into this book very quickly. Now it’s finished and what did I think of the final book in the young elites series?

There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.

Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all she’s gained.

When a new danger appears, Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds, putting not only herself at risk, but every Elite. In order to preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger.

The main reason why I have been enjoying this series so much is because I have found it to be a lot darker than the other YA series I have been reading recently and I am very happy to say that this continues into the final book of the series. It might seem strange but I do like that the main character isn’t all happy go lucky and is in fact sort of miserable and scared the whole time. For me it just makes for a much more exciting read.

The overall story was great as well, it takes place a year after the events of The Rose Society which at the start was a little bit confusing but it still got me hooked and it was really interesting to see how all the main and side characters were doing after a certain period of time.

However, the ending was quite predictable, about 200 pages in which was a bit of a let down in my opinion. I would have liked to have finished this series feeling a little bit shocked.

This is one of the best fantasy series I have read in a long time and I know I am going to be recommending this series to a lot of people in the not too distant future.

  1. Today, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iphone and tested to see if it can survive a 25 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know
this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
