Maximum Security by Robert Muchamore Review

Onto the third book in the series and as I am really enjoying the reread of this series I have no plans to stop any time soon.

The CIA have been hunting Jane Oxford, an international weapons dealer, for thirty years. Her only weak point is her son, Curtis. It’s a job for CHERUB. CHERUB kids are highly trained professionals. Their essential advantage: a criminal never suspects that a kid could be spying on him. This is James Adams’ most dangerous mission so far, working undercover inside a maximum security prison. Over the years, CHERUB has put hundreds of criminals behind bars. Now, for the first time ever, they’ve got to break one out.

Taken from goodreads

I remember back when I first read this series many years ago this was the one that always stuck in my mind as I think it is because it is the first time things could go very wrong very quickly for James and it just showed how dangerous his job really is. Being trapped in a maximum security prison surrounded by killers who are mentally unstable and will hurt people for fun just doesn’t sound like something a teenager should be put in front of. However, the way that the story is written allows you to know just how James was feeling the whole time and just how scared he was the whole time he was in there, but at the same time even though at certain points he did want to leave he kept going to make sure the mission was going to be complete.

You get another POV in this book, that being Laurens and I did really enjoy this little change from the other two books as it gives a little bit of fresh life into the series. Plus getting to see how she did during basic training is always a pleasure.

I do wish we could get some more information about the people in the CHERUB base while James is away on a mission but seeing how the mission is the main part of the book I get why we don’t hear a lot about what happened while James was away.

Out of the three books in the series so far this is without a doubt my favourite due to the danger but I am looking to see what else the series brings especially with James getting older and stronger.
