Skulduggery Pleasant – Seasons of War by Derek Landy Review

This is the latest book in the series and the 13th which is quite an accomplishment in itself. Since finishing the 12th book back in Febuary I have been waiting to read this book since then so lets see what I think of it.

War is coming. To avert catastrophe, Skulduggery and Valkyrie are sent on a secret mission that takes them away from everything they know, to a forsaken land of magic and grim, unrelenting terror. It is here that Valkyrie will have to fight the hardest ― not only against the enemies who want her dead, but also against her own self-destructive impulses. It’s only by crawling through darkness that she’ll be able to once again stand in the light…

When you read through this book then the first thing you will notice is just how much happens. When I started to notice just how much was happening I started taking notes just so I was able to keep track of everything. Derek does a great job in making sure that the book doesn’t feel rushed but at the same time keeping it action packed. He does this by having different P.O.V. but only with characters that you actually want to know more about such as Omen, Tanith and Temper.

Action scenes are something of a speciality by Derek as with each new fight that happens it makes you not want to put the book down and try and figure out how the fight is going to end and who is going to win. This is really hard to do as most other authors will just say that this guy hit that guy and be done with it but with magic involved it just makes everything a little bit more exciting.

The book does it bit to help with current situations, by this I mean showing how someone is able to get help when they think all is lost and he does a lot with having a side character who is transfluid.

I cant wait to get into the 14th and 15th book in the series but unfortanley I have to wait till 2021 and 2022 respectively to do so.

Because so much happened and the fact that I wasnt able to predict so much that was going to happen due to the twists and turns just shows how much of a good author Derek Landy. This is an almost perfect book and I think just about everyone should get into this series.
