After Crash Bandicoot was remastered it was only going to be a matter of time before this was going to get the same treatment. Now this is a game I was really excited for mainly because I played this series more than the actual Crash Bandicoot games. Anyway, it is time for a review.
The main premise of the game is to prove to the world that you are the fastest racer alive. How do you do this? Well by winning every single race and then going on to beat Nitrous Oxide. The premise is very simple but it does give you a reason to play the game, and to be honest the boss battles were probably the best part of the whole game. Having something to aim for is a must have in a racing game as it makes you want to keep playing if you end up on a losing streak, the story makes you want to see what is coming next and what is going to happen when you eventually win. I do wish the story went into a little more depth but I am not going to complain that much about a story in a racing game.
The game looks fantastic, the difference between the original and this game are almost unbelievable. From the moment I saw the trailer I knew I was going to love every little detail of art that this game was going to throw at me. Personal favourite is the tracks and just how good every single one of them was to play. Each one coming with its only little challenging moment. This made you have to get good at the track in order to win and it is that, that makes the game so much fun to play. My personal favourite details has to be on the final track of the game oxide station, when you travel outside of the actual track the noises you hear actually change to go with what it would be like to hear sound in space. It is this tiny little detail that makes such a big difference in the game.
My biggest gripe with this game is the control scheme. Who the fuck uses X(PS4)/A (XBONE) as the accelartion in a racing game, thats the whole point of the triggers. For me it feels like the guys behind the game throught ‘ you know what fuck it lets do every single thing backwards). Speaking of backwards, how do you reverse in this game? The left trigger? Nope. Circle? Nope. ohh wait of fucking course you go backwards by moving backwards with the left stick, so can you use it to go forwards, ohhhhhh fuck no of course not. Sort the fucking controls out you dumb fucks. When you do start getting used to the controls then yes it does it very well but it is just such a stupid control scheme.
For me I really enjoyed this game and the challenge that it brought with it, as it is not a game where you are going to win each race for the first time. You have got to work for it and that gives that little bit of extra enjoyment at the end of the gaming session. Go out and buy this game if you are wanting a racing game that is actually challenging.
