Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Screenplay by J.K.Rowling Review

Being a long time Harry Potter fan when I found out that there was going to be a movie set in the same world as the original movies but based in the past then you know I was going to be all over it. Anyway it is time for a review.

The Story

When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…

Taken from Goodreads

One of my favourite characters in the Harry Potter world is Hagrid, I loved how interested he was in the animals and beasts but we never really got to find out much about them while watching the movies or reading the books so to basically have a whole movie/book about them is great for me as we get to have a new great story and character to love but also find out more about the magical world that us muggles don’t know anything about.

The story itself is really good and once I got used to reading the story in the style of a screenplay I didn’t put it down, I went from page 15 to finishing the book in one sitting which is something I have not done in a while. During the screenplay we basically follow two different stories that eventually work their way into one. I did find this to be a bit confusing due to the fact I am not used to reading screenplays but after a while reading the place they are in and how the previous chapter ended it all made sense in the end.

With the book telling you were each little scene is then you will be able to know the exact locations of where everything is taking place and with the descriptions part you will know exactly what everyone and everything looks like which is great as it means it makes the book a lot easier to read.

You will read this book very quickly as it doesn’t use the full use of the page and every time someone speaks they only put about 4 words on a line so you will get through that very quickly. When I finally get around to the movie I hope they have more speech involved as the screen play itself felt very bare bones and a lot of the space in the book was taken up with the bold large letters letting you know that the scene had changed.

I am personally not a big fan of screenplay books as I think they are just a way for the company to make even more money but what can I say I am one of the idiots that bought both screenplays released so far from the harry potter world, if you haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet then go and give this book a read as it will give you the fix that you will need. If you have seen the movie, then also read the book and see if you can spot what the differences are and if you can then comment below letting me know what you think of both. I have been Aaron Morrsi and i’ll see you next time.
