Mad Max (PS4) Review

I started playing this game when it first came out but for some reason I lost interest in the game and started playing something else. It recently came out on the newest PS plus so why not give the game another chance. Anyway, it is time for a review.

Max is on the lookout for fuel, while he is driving in the plains of silence looking for fuel he gets ambushed by Scabrous Scrotus and his minions. After fighting Scrotus and putting a chainsaw in his head, Scrotus is somehow still alive and manages to knock max to the ground and steal his car. This is when Max meets Chumbucket who has got the parts of a new car that Max is able to use but in order to get his original car back then it is going to take a lot of upgrades and being able to become strong enough to beat Scrotus a second time and this time make sure that he dies.

The story at first is very slow to take of as it just feels like you are doing one collection mission after another which for me is one of the worst parts of any game. However, after a few hours the story does start to progress and it gets a lot more exciting to the point where i would make myself lose sleep before a 12-hour shift in order to progress with the game. The final 3 chapters of the game made it impossible for me to put it down, thankfully I had a day off the next day otherwise I wouldn’t be in a fit state to work.

I don’t know what to think of how the game looks. I love the character models, and a few of the car models but everything else to me just looks bland. I know that this is a world where water is sparse and everywhere is basically a desert but I haven’t seen a more boring looking over world is ages. I understand why they made it look the way it did but dear god when you are driving and you actually get excited to see something else on the land expect broken down cars and some the occasional dead person then you know things are bad.

Voice acting in this game is passable at best. You mostly head Chum and Max speak and those voice actors do very well as you can hear the emotion that Chum has got for the car and the way Max only has one aim and will do anything in order to get there. All the over voice actors just seem to get away with it by shouting the whole time, this might make people think of rage and anger but I just find it lazy.

The game plays very well, the cars feel great to drive and each one has a different way of speeding up or turning which keeps the game feeling fresh whenever you need to get into a different car., The combat system is exactly the same as the Batman Arkham games where if you button mash you will die. It took me a while to figure this out but you hit people till you see the counter button displayed and then make sure you press that and then the fighting is pretty simple.

The game took me about 15 hours to beat and I personally that it worth the whole 15 hours, you get to explore a really large map, have a great story with great character models and the driving is a pleasure. Unfortunately there are some points in the game that do ruin it but every game has this. I’ve been Aaron Morrsi and i’ll see you next time
