Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi Review

The only reason I bought this book was because I liked the title and cover I didn’t even read the blurb till I got the book home but after reading the blurb I jumped straight into the book as I had to find out more. Anyway, it is time for a review.

The story takes place in a universe were 10 god’s existed and gave certain people powers over certain things. Zelie is one of these people, well she used to be until the king killed everyone he could find with powers which made zelies powers disappear as there was no longer a connection between the humans and the gods for the powers to flow through. Zelie is sick and tired of being bullied and thrown around by the king’s men so makes it her mission to bring the powers back however, it turns out that not all the royals are exactly like the king.

The story is what makes this book brilliant as from start to finish you want to find out everything you can about Zelie and her past, what makes her be so passionate and risk her own life multiple times in order to get the powers back to her people. There is so many twists and turns in the story that it makes you have to stop every now and then to think over what just happened, which I love as it makes you really think about the book which hasn’t happen for me in a while.

The character development is brilliant especially between Zelie and Inan (one of the other main characters) they change so much from the start of the book to the end that it is almost impossible not to love them by the half way point of the book

It reminds me a lot of the Rick Riordan books with the mythology aspect which makes the read of much better for me as I love his work.

If you like love complications, action scenes and mythology then give this book a read as soon as you can. I’ve been Aaron Morrsi and I’ll see you next time.
